Mission Bridge Seismic Retrofit
Mission Bridge is a nineteen-pier, four-lane structure which consists of steel girders supported by reinforced concrete piers. A seismic evaluation determined that the reinforced concrete pier columns and tie beam-column joints had significant strength deficiencies when evaluated under current seismic design codes and standards. Fyfe Company, LLC offered their services to provide an innovative and cost-effective solution that would bring the structure up to current seismic standards
The Tyfo® SCH 41 System was installed by Fibrwrap Construction at the bottom of the pier columns to provide additional shear capacity and to the tie beam-column connections at four of the nine piers to increase the joint shear strength. All composite surfaces were painted to best match the existing structure’s color.
Implementing the Tyfo® Fibrwrap® System was ultimately the best solution as it provided the most creative and cost-efficient solution compared to other alternatives.
